Collage Vases

My collage vases are made with stock certificates, vintage stamps, currency strips, newspaper, and decorative and handmade papers. Making them is both a creative and emotional process of tearing pieces of the past and reshaping them into something new and beautiful. A vessel to be filled …

The stamps in the vases were inherited and collecting dust, so I decided to incorporate them into my art. I suspect some of the vintage stamps could be quite valuable. I could be giving away a lottery ticket, yet that is part of the adventure. The vases are a treasure hunt for the viewer, offering very different perspectives up close and afar. The artwork is sculptural in nature, with layers torn and built up. These materials are a commentary on how our past shapes us and becomes part of a new whole.
